I've been running across a few articles on Mesothelioma, the lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. Most of the issues with asbestos were before my time, but I remember it being covered on the news during my childhood years.
Here's a little more history:
Asbestos was used as an insulating material starting in the late 1800's, and its use increased greatly during the WWII era. Medical researchers eventually discovered the connection between those who worked around asbestos and mesothelioma. Those who were regularly exposed to asbestos dust were suffering from a yet unidentified form of lung cancer.
The first lawsuit came in 1929, but it would be 1960 before research clearly demonstrated the asbestos-mesothelioma connection. There are still ongoing lawsuits to this day.
Here's a little website I've started on this topic: Cancer, Mesothelioma, and Asbestos

I used to do tile with my father a few months ago and hes been doing it all of my 20 years of life. I often wondered was he being exposed to these things and myself a few times when we would go to these old homes and redo the old school tile flooring that had been put in maybe 30-50 years ago. I didnt do many of them but Ive often wondered how many would have those chemicals still present in such old homes.
When I got very sick ten years ago, our house was under construction and I kept being rushed to the hospital because whenever I go back home, I have severe asthma attacks. We suspected something in the house was making me sick and true enough it was the construction materials.
